Hotel reviews: Hotel Emonec, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Created on: March 02, 2011

Looking for a reasonably priced hotel for a one night stay in Ljubljana, I was impressed at the number of positive online reviews that the Hotel Emonec had amassed and decided to go ahead and book this two star centrally located hotel.

I was very pleased with my choice – the location could not be better, the hotel was basic but comfortable and clean, and the staff were all very friendly. It was just what I had been looking for.

~~Booking~~
Booking was frighteningly simple. I found the hotel website and sent an email, enquiring if they had a room available. The reply arrived within hours; they had booked me and were looking forward to seeing me. I was a little disconcerted as they had not asked for an address or any form of deposit, but when I arrived everything was in order and my room was ready and waiting.

~~Location~~
The hotel has a perfect location; right in the middle of the historic old town of Ljubljana, by the famous triple bridge and the river. No cars are allowed into this area so our taxi had to drop us off outside the Union Hotel about three minutes walk away from the Hotel Emonec.

The receptionist later told us that many guests with cars have been put off by the recent pedestrianisation of the ancient city centre, but garage space can be rented from the hotel at a cost of 7E a day. Drivers have to phone reception from the nearest road by the Union Hotel and a parking card will be brought out to them to access the garage.

When we arrived, the friendly receptionist spoke perfect English and showed us to our room. The reception is open 24 hours a day and the reception desk is in a large, airy lobby with big leather chairs. Internet access is available in the lobby at a PC which costs 15E per 15 minutes.

~~The Room~~
The hotel rooms are located in three large buildings around a very quiet courtyard. Double and single rooms are found in the main hotel building, while family rooms are located on the other side of the courtyard. This means that there is a short walk to reception and breakfast.

In one of the family blocks, separate from the main hotel.  Entry to this block was via our room key card, and the outer door opened out into a smartly decorated hallway. The corridors had new carpets and automatic ceiling lights, which came in very handy whilst struggling with key cards, bags etc. Entry to our room was by using a card key, whilst another card key switched on the lighting and electricity. The room contained a double bed and one full
