Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): The ideal role model

by Ruhaifa Samir

Created on: March 02, 2011

Since the creation of mankind, God has sent numerous Prophets and Messengers to bring His message and to serve as role models for the people to emulate, in order to find the true path of righteousness and success.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the last Messenger of Islam, was an embodiment of perfection. His life is an example for men and women of all ages and professions. He not only preached but practised what he preached and was a true example of a perfect human being. It is said about him in the Quran “And you (stand) on an exalted standard of character”

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the only messenger and prophet in the history of the world whose entire life record has been fully preserved. From his birth to his death, all his sayings, his actions and details of his conduct and character, within the home and beyond, have been carefully recorded and kept through the generations so that they can serve as example and inspiration for all to come.

The Prophet is an ideal role model for us in every walk of life:

-As a Husband:

Muhammad (pbuh) was a model husband. In spite of the fact that he was a Messenger of Allah, and had the pressures of the state and people upon his shoulders, he used to help out around the house, and also mend his own clothes and shoes. He was kind, gentle and tolerant and even taught his followers to treat their wives with respect and affection. On the occasion of his last sermon, he said “Treat your wives with kindness...”

 -As a Father and Grandfather:

The Prophet Muhammad was a kind and loving father to his children. Not only were his own children the object of his love, but he loved his grandchildren immensely as well. He would carry them on his shoulders during his prayers, would play with them, kiss them and say kind words to them. He would be as loving and kind to the children of his Companions as well. The Prophet even said “He does not belong to us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect to our old ones.”

- As a Friend:

The Prophet was a loyal friend. There was never a person in need, who did not find his need fulfilled by him. He was a generous and welcoming host as well. He is reported to have said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should be generous to his guest”.

 - As an Enemy:

There are not many of us who can claim to have treated our enemies with justice and forgiveness. But the Prophet was not only kind to his friends
