Some say that there is a rise in paranormal activity. Perhaps it is just there is more of an interest in unlocking the secrets to things that go bump in the night. Whichever the case may be, the level of interest in the paranormal is evident when many people turn on their television sets as many paranormal investigation teams have taken to the airwaves. Almost every night of the week television shows on the paranormal are popping up on one channel or another.
Jason and Grant, of TAPS, set the stage for bringing paranormal investigations to television sets across the world. Syfy aired the first episode of Ghost Hunters in October of 2004. Since then, they have had two spin-off television shows called Ghost Hunters International and Ghost Hunter’s Academy.
They take a scientific approach to paranormal investigation. Although they have had personal experiences at a variety of locations, they are not quick to say a location is haunted based on personal opinion. Even the possible evidence collected is scrutinized carefully. Some of the possible evidence is thrown out if there is even a shadow of a doubt that it could be explained.
They will listen to the reports of each location and try to debunk, or disprove, paranormal causes for the occurrences. Upon revealing evidence to the client, they remain professional and try to make the owner or employee feel more at ease with the events going on. They don’t boost up any unexplained paranormal phenomena to seem scary. They also try to help those who may have actual paranormal phenomena in dealing with the occurrence.
Josh Gates and his team go out in search of paranormal tales, trying to find and validate the reports. Although many of their episodes deal with cryptozoology, they have also been known to travel to some of the most haunted locations in the world. Some of these include the Hoia-Baciu Forest in Romania, King Tut’s curse, the poltergeist of Pompeii, and the Island of Dolls, just to name of few. Another impressive episode was their visit to Chile in search of alien reports.
Don’t think Destination Truth is done yet. Each year, since June of 2007, there are a series of episodes which air on Syfy. The Destination Truth team searches for the truth. Although in some cases they hope to find proof, they also use science to analyze the evidence they collect. They prefer to rule out the explainable before calling it paranormal.
