ROBERT
Desire me like you used to
Before you slammed the door in my face
For a choice that was never mine
I'm lost without hope of you
The timbre, tilt, pain of voice
Stirs things buried in denial
In my agonized, dying heart
Hours eaten away staring at photographs
Comparing them to my memories of long ago
Killing myself over the slope of your jaw
Cupid's Bow lips- a sweetly deadly weapon
I'm drowning in your hate of me
Choking on the apathy of your cold words
Wandering lost in your labyrinthine mass of walls
That I'll never get around
Nor thru for I only found the single door
Now locked up tight against the intruder
Against just me, in retrospect
In the real world, I never say your name
Preferring to scream it in my head constantly
One of my secret, honored treasures
Your would abhor being hidden that way
But that's how I keep what I hold dearest
My silence makes you part of my soul, untarnished
I wanted to safeguard against the loss of you
To meet a new day fully armed at a later date
Foolish me, people don't grow that way
I've caused you misery that I cannot assuage
And guilt rides me like an unseen jockey
Yet through the unending, lonely night I feel your touch
Phantom and lingering in my silly dreams
Of what might have come to pass.
