The dangers of labeling a child

by Heart

Dangers of Labeling a child. One way to see society is through a looking glass, what could we see? A frail existance of conditioned behaviours. What does it really mean when one labels a child...one would have to consider naming all the ingredients. Could be that even a warning - danger to health is placed on the label or altenatively one could label a child opposite and have all ingredients as successful filled with roses and sugar.

Now, one does not require degress and doctrines to see that both positive and negative labelling can do as much damage to each. I believe the damage is and could be done when much emphasis is placed on the label. Consider the following;

Child one: Smart, successful at school, popular with peers, snobbish, good looking, respectful to self and others, limited communication skills, moves onto University (at no expense) has never been in trouble with the law, school or other, perfect huamn specimen etc..Can we examine the parental guidance here, brought up to strict rules, somewhat hidden from society and the atrocities, naieve, but has a bright prospective future, still at 18 abides by the strict rules of the parental apron.

Child two: Smart, enduring, excellent communication skills, an abundance of friends, good looking, has been in trouble with the law, school, worked in full time position for two years. Parental guidance during upbringing, parents allowed the child freewill in most circumstances, open communication with parents and what society offers - nothing hidden, child is 19 works full time in responsibly postion has had major life experiences, is happy and getting teeth stuck into life itself.

So which child wears the better label? the one who has had a sheltered life, everything given on a platter. or the Child who has had the freedom to make own choices good or bad and learn about life challenges etc...

I believe that society would choose the nice quiet child who is no hassle, does not challenge and goes with the flow. This child is perfect.

I disagree, I believe that in all things there should be a balance. For example, the child who steps into the world not realising and having a certain amount of experience will most likely be dependant on the system, parental guidance or any guidance for that matter. I belive that the child who is allow the freedom to explore their own individuality and make choices be it negative or positive will at the end of the day perhaps not receive a Uni degres but by goodness they will certainly have a heart.

at the end of the day is it a fact that when a person labels a child and places great emphasis on the label be it negative or positive they are really stomping on the childs ability to excel in whatever they are put on the earth for...and finally,
those who label children are they not labelling the parents in the fist instance?
