What happens after we die?

There are those who consider themselves to be mediums, with the ability to communicate with others from the "other side", the place where we go after death. Personally, I am still uncertain as to what it is these mediums are linking with, and how accurate their information regarding the "other side" actually is. All I can do is remember an incident which happened to me through which I lost my fear of death, and what is to come.

When I was younger I remember being very depressed and trying hard to make sense of my life. I would go for walks in the springlike air and think hard about the dilemmas and frustrations life was giving me. I did consider ending my life but wasn't brave enough to do so.

One day, as I walked, I found myself feeling as if I was above my head, yet the space around me was darkness, and all I could do was be aware of my internal being. I "looked" down and saw the two halves of my brain arguing with each other and then the two cerebellum turned into skate boards, each one pointing in a different direction away from each other: my brain was being turned into a mental schism, and I somehow "knew" I had to take control. I say "I" had to take control: what I meant was the inner self, the inner me! If I had wanted to, at that moment, I could have moved anywhere in time and space with one quick thought, but somehow, I also "knew" that if I did so then I would lose out on certain experiences - experiences which could only happen whilst inside a matter body. I decided to remain in my body and began a slow process of regaining control of my mind and my life.

From that moment I was able to accept that the "soul", for want of a better word, is real! It is this soul that goes on after death. There is something, although I don't know what, waiting for us after this matter body goes.

But to know what that is requires us to die, and once fully dead there is no way of coming back and telling people precisely what is on the other side. The nearest we get is via mediums, and whilst some may be very accurate, there are many who are nothing more than novices trying to make sense of something that is senseless to those who exist in this 3D world.
