Millions of children are forced to learn subjects in school that they do not enjoy and may not even USE in life. It should be considered a crime to waste a child’s time and that is exactly what is happening in many schools around the world; children are not given more options to learn the skills that interest them and their time is being wasted as a result. All human beings were created equal but we don’t all have the same talents and gifts. It is clear based on the constant problems in the public school system that a one-size fits all method of educating students is not working. Bullies, drop-outs, violence, peer pressure and frustration abounds the halls of most public schools. Children should not be forced to endure strife AND boredom at school and administrators of education should take note and take charge by teaching courses that are necessary in life and giving students the choice to learn what will help them in life.
English is an important subject that ALL students should be studying from kindergarten up until high school graduation. Knowing how to communicate effectively will help every person, especially with regards to getting an edge over competitors when applying for jobs. Many adults living in North America pay little attention to improving their grammar and communication skills. The result is adults who turn into parents who end up raising children who don’t pay enough attention to refining their grammar and communication skills, just like the parents. History and current events should also be taught because we should all know where we came from and what is happening now so that we can better prepare for the future.
Basic math and basic science should be mandatory subjects as well. Everyone will use basic math in their daily lives and having a basic understanding of human biology and how science affects our lives is helpful to everyone. If a student wants to learn more than just basic math and basic science then the option should be available to them to learn more advanced mathematics and sciences but only if they CHOOSE to do so. Not everyone is interested in calculus or trigonometry and no student should be forced to study maths and sciences that won’t help them in their daily lives.
Home economics and family planning should be mandatory subjects for students to learn in schools because we all come from families and we all live
