Backlinks are the superhighways of the Internet.  Backlinks are the methods by which most the traffic gets to its destination.   By following these effective ways to get more backlinks you can ensure that you receive as many backlinks and ultimately traffic as possible.

♦  Write “Link-Bait” Content

“Link Bait” is a term used for content that is designed to get people to share the link with their friends and peers.  Some people refer to this as, “viral” content, but viral takes a little bit more luck.  “Link Bait” is a little bit easier to define.  Controversy, hot topics and list posts all work well as “Link Bait”

♦  Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is simply the most effective way to get more backlinks. Blog commenting does not mean dropping by and leaving a comment like, “great post” on every blog you can find.  It is about going to targeted and related blogs, actually reading the posts and leaving insightful and thought-provoking comments.

1)  To find the very best blogs to comment on there's a couple things you need to look for.

2)  Make sure the blog is “do follow ” so the blog returns a link.

3)  Look for blogs that are relevant.

4)  Find a blog that has decent Page Rank and/or traffic.

5)  For anyone back-linking to a blog finding blogs that have CommentLuv enabled can be great additional benefit, but not 100% necessary (optional).

 ♦  Social  Bookmarking Sites

Using social bookmarking sites like Digg, Amplify, StumbleUpon and Jumptags can be done quickly and easily. It only takes a moment or two to make a link that will not only provide a back link to your article but will also hopefully drive additional direct traffic from the social bookmarking network.

 ♦  Forum Signatures

Forums are great way to gain backlinks.  When you sign up for the forums ensure to put the URLs you wish to link in your forum signature.  Once you do this every time you reply to any post you will get links to all those URLs (since they are in the forum signature).  This is an easy way to build up large volume of links.

♦  Use Web 2.0 Sites

There are many sites out there that allow you to link out. This is often referred to as article marketing and can be done on many web 2.0 sites. Some of the very best ones are Squidoo, HubPages, EzineArticles and Weebly.
