Nothing compares to ultimate status owning an authentic Rolex watch. Attention to detailing is what makes a Rolex's stand out as well as its limited production of watches.
Besides being a time keeping device with good looks and distinct styling, an authentic Rolex has exceptional investment value. Previous owners, who sold their Rolex´s, have received more than double the amount paid as compared to the original cost. Vintage Rolex´s are not only rare but considered a collectable.
History
Rolex´s roots stem from the firm, Wilsdorf & Davis, founded in 1908. Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law joined forces with pocket watch maker Alfred Davis in London to work on watch movements. Pocket watches were prevalent at the time, and it was inconceivable to find 'accuracy' in timepieces that were smaller than the average pocket watch.
By 1910 Wilsdorf brothers sent a movement they developed to the School of Horology in Switzerland. It was awarded the Chronometer Award for 'accuracy' of timekeeping, a first ever for a wristwatch.
With the award in hand, the Wilsdorfs continued to perfect the wristwatch by constructing a dust proof case. Continuing to furthering its accuracy of the time and protective cases against the elements, Wilsdorf registered the "Rolex" name in Switzerland, its headquarters.
The infamous Oyster model case debuted in 1926. Swimmer Mercedes Gleitz wore the Oyster and swam across the English Channel. The watch was checked and showed no signs of any leakage within its casing. With the publicity gained from this celebrity marketing feat, sales soared. The name Rolex became world renown and its timeless appeal has made it a sought after watch.
Fake alert
The price of Rolex matches something JP Morgan once stated, "If you have to ask how much something costs, you can't afford it."
Pricey it is and that makes Rolex is a top contender is the fake designer accessory department. Many of the faux Rolex’s sold look so real. A fake Rolex watch has no resale value, nor can it be taken to a jeweler for a battery change or cleaning. In many areas, it is illegal to own counterfeit goods.
Distinguish the authentic Rolex watch from the not so real Rolex with knowing what to look for.
