Glasgow is the largest urban center in Scotland, and the third largest in the United Kingdom. Shopping, festivals, music, and theater are abundant in Glasgow, making it a popular destination for tourists. For travelers on a budget in Europe, it is much easier to find cheap places to stay in Glasgow than in many other popular European destinations. This guide to budget accommodations in Glasgow, Scotland will help travelers save money on lodging in the city using hostels and guesthouses.
HOSTELS
Especially for young travelers, hostels are the best budget accommodation in Glasgow. Hostels have cheap prices because they often feature dormitory-style rooms, rented by the bed. Common areas and amenities make hostels a pleasant experience. Some hostels offer private rooms for people who would rather not share with strangers. While a few hostels have minimum or maximum age requirements, there are sometimes options for older or family guests, and it is easy to stay in hostels. Here are some quality budget hostels in Glasgow to check out.
Euro Hostel Glasgow
318 Clyde Street, G1 4NR, Glasgow
Locations don't get much better than this. The Euro Hostel overlooks the River Clyde in the city center of Glasgow and is right across the street from the central train station. There are no age requirements for this hostel, so travelers of all ages are welcome. Private rooms are available for groups of one, two, four, or eight people. There are also dorm-style accommodations in rooms with as little as four or as many as fourteen beds. Amenities such as a community kitchen, lounges, wireless Internet, laundry facilities, and an included breakfast make staying at Euro Hostel convenient and enjoyable. Prices in the summer season range from $25-30 per person for rooms with four or more beds. Private one- or two-person rooms are about $50-80 per night. The private rooms are a similar experience to a hotel for a much lower price. The Euro Hostel will not disappoint.
Westend Backpackers
3 Bank Street, Glasgow
For even more stretched budgets, the Westend Hostel is perhaps the cheapest lodging in Glasgow. This small hostel is located next to the University of Glasgow in the West End neighborhood of the city. The city center is in fairly easy walking distance, but a nearby subway station at Kelvinbridge is available. Westend Backpackers is cheap because it offers relatively few amenities, but it does feature Internet access and free breakfast. The dorms are the true steal: 4-bed or 10-bed
