Big hair has made a comeback. Today's big hair is less contrived, ratted, and sticky as it was back in the 80's. Instead, the modern big hair look is full and volumous, while remaining soft to the touch. Even if you were not naturally blessed with thick hair, achieving the look of big, beautiful hair is still possible.
The first step is to use a shampoo and conditioner that is especially designed to add volume to your hair. The label on the bottle should say "volumizing" or something similar. These products will add fullness to your hair, without weighing it down. Once you have found a shampoo and conditioner that works for you, the next step is to apply a root lifter to your hair. Most of these products are applied while hair is still wet, before blow-drying.
The next step is very important: use the proper method when blow-drying your hair. Use a brush to pull hair up and out away from your scalp. Use tension with your brush and aim the hot air directly at your roots while you pull the hair up. Repeat this process in sections, until you hair is completely dry. Make sure that your hair is dried completely, and is not damp in any areas, as this will sabotage your attempts at achieving fullness.
Once your hair is completely dry, use a large barrel curling iron or hot rollers, especially on the top of your head. Again, pull the hair in an upward motion, wrap it around the roller or iron, and then spray with a volumizing hair spray. When you release the curl, make sure to let it cool before attempting to style.
Finally, when hair is completely cool, bend over so your hair is flipped upside-down and tousle hair with your fingers. Spray again with hair spray before standing upright. Once the spray has dried, grasp the hair on top of your head by the roots and spray again. Hold the hair up with your fingers until the spray has dried. This will give you a little lift on top. Finally, spray your entire head of hair with hairspray and work it through with your fingers until you achieve the desired look.
Once you practice these steps, they will become part of you daily routine and you will end up with big, sexy hair any time you want it.
