Florida’s sandy beaches and endless coastline make it a beach lover’s paradise. Whether you are looking hit the waves, soak up the sun or simply relax and enjoy the best of what the Sunshine State has to offer, here are ten hot beaches to check out:
North Beach, Fort Desoto
When Dr. Beach named Fort Desoto Beach his top pick in 2009, he had good reason. The pristine beach boasts sugary white sand and crystal clear water, but visitors can also enjoy the calm shallow water without great crowds on most days. The park has bike trails, a dog park, picnic areas, snack shops and restrooms.
Honeymoon Island, Dunedin
This State Park is a natural barrier island and a local favorite. Two pavilions house restrooms and concession stands that serve food, ice cream, beer and soft drinks with outdoor seating overlooking the beach. The beach offers chair and umbrella rentals allowing for everything you need without having to pack a thing.
Sanibel Island Beach
Shell collectors will be in heaven at a beach literally made of shells. Bring your bucket, scoop or net and shell at low tide when the seashells are more exposed to find the best selection. The islands are so well known for their shelling the term “Sanibel Stoop” is a term that describes the stance visitors usually take while searching for their treasures.
Clearwater Beach
Fans of sugary white sand will not be disappointed with this well manicured beach surrounded by shops, restaurants and multiple water sport options. This popular tourist destination has been recently revitalized with a makeover by the city, but the amazing stretch of beach with its fine powdery sand and breathtaking sunsets is the main reason to visit.
South Beach, Miami
For those looking for a scene, you will find it in South Beach. Miami Beach is the place to show off your flawless beach-body or simply take in the view. Some areas along the stretch of beach have a clothing optional culture. Whatever your preference, be sure to do it in style while in South Beach and don’t be surprised if you run into a celebrity or two enjoying the clear blue waters.
Fort Walton Beach
Located in the panhandle, Fort Walton Beach stretches along the Gulf of Mexico and offers a quiet beach experience with powdery white beaches on Florida’s Emerald Coast which gets its name from the sparkling green waters of the region.
