Poetry: My love

by Patty E Padgett

Created on: February 21, 2011

DOTH MY LADY NOT SEE

Doth my love not see me

as I stand before thee

stripped naked of sin

and wanton desires

Am I not sanctified enough

to gain thy acceptance

and mayhaps a

smile from thy glowing countenance

or a kiss from thy ruby lips

Must I perform heroic deeds

to gain notice by thy sparkling eyes

or praise from thy tongue

Am I to suffer henceforth

because I am not with title born

thus deemed unworthy of thy hand

Doth my impoverished lack of nobility

cling to me like a stench

offending thee as a dank miasma

Doth my lady not perceive my

purity of heart

and my perennial devotion

to thee

everlasting and steadfast

Doth that not overpower a title

a colorful coat of arms

or a well-born heritage

I kneel before thee now

humbled by my love

my heart in my hand

with these queries

I fervently await thy reply

If it be in the negative vein

I will linger no longer but

will live my life as a lonely merchant

vending my wares with a broken heart
