It was the telephone call that Max had been dreading.
For six months he’d been in charge of a monthly magazine published by his employer. It was Rufus, his boss,
“Max, your standards are slipping, this months copy is not good enough”
“Sorry boss, I’ll see to it straightaway,” Max said.
Leaning through the office door, Max shouted,
“In next months magazine I want to see quality, I want Shakespeare, and I want a black coffee, please Mildred,” then he added,
“You are all on a one week notice if the boss complains again, understood”?
“Yes boss,” they mumbled, fearing their jobs.
Again Max went on, “Give me glamour, give me girls and boys in diamonds, and make them sparkle,”
adding “I want those guys to look like they just had the happiest day of their lives.”
“Sure hope Max knows what he’s doing,” Mildred sighed, knowing that Max had let standards slip.
A month later the phone rings.
It was Rufus, ”Max, this weeks magazine, you pulled it outa da bag, it’s good,”
“You like it Boss?” Max asked,
“Max baby, ‘This months ‘Piano Lessons For Beginners.’ has never looked better.”
Max smiled, the phone had never sounded sweeter.
