Tips for playing blackjack

Created on: February 16, 2011

Blackjack, also known as Twenty-one or Pontoon, is one of the most popular casino games.  Believe it or not, blackjack is the only casino game that the player can have an advantage over the house.  Basically what this means is that you can have a higher chance of winning than the casino, which is very good.  This isn’t an easy thing to accomplish though.  It takes years of practice, not only physically, but mentally as well.  A key thing to keep in mind about this is that you must know how to count cards to have an advantage over the house.  A basic strategy is also needed to beat the casino, but this can be explained in a few paragraphs.  If you are serious about winning Blackjack, I highly recommend you read on, trust me, you do not want to miss this.

To begin with, I just want to give a brief portrayal about gambling.  In my honest opinion I think that gambling, if not taken seriously is very corrupt and damaging to our society.  Not only does it break family apart, it can ruin people’s livelihoods.  I know many people in my life that have gambling addictions and it is not something you like to see.  So please, I encourage you to take gambling very seriously, do not go to the casino without the intention of winning, otherwise I suggest you stay home or go somewhere else.  The casino is no place for foolishness.  Before you even think about going to a casino and playing Blackjack, there are a few things you need to decide.  The first thing you should decide upon is how much money you are willing to spend.  For instance, I am a full time student, so I only bring about twenty dollars with me.  If I was a full time employee making fifty grand a year, then I might bring a couple hundred with me.  Either way doesn’t make a difference to whether you are going to win or not.  What it does affect is how much you can win.  After you set aside how much you are willing to spend, you need to learn and practice the basic Blackjack strategy

The basic strategy goes as follows: if the dealer is showing a 6,5,4,3, or 2, and you have a 12 or higher, you should ALWAYS choose to stand.  The reasoning behind this is because you should always assume the dealer has a 10 spot (King, Queen, Jack, 10) under his hidden card.
