Helium versus Triond - which is worth your time?
Well explained simply - if one wants to try and make some sort of a living by writing articles (or at least make enough to pay some of your bills!), well then Helium is the better of the two, as it enables you to make money not only through writing articles but also by writing in contests and writing for the Marketplace.
Admittedly Helium has much stricter rules than Triond but that's what makes it such a high quality site and some of their strict rules include the following:
1. All articles must be over 400 words, whereas in Triond you can write as many words or as few as you like.
2. The topics that you write about must fall within the topics that Helium ask for. So if you can't find the title that you are looking for, you must suggest your own title and see if it gets accepted. Most times it does get accepted but for the few times that it doesn't, it is best to re-think the title or even, at times, the subject matter.
3. You must rate the articles of other writers, which is good in one way as you gain experience from reading the works of others, but at the same time rating articles is a bit time consuming.
It is however essential that you rate, because for doing this you get awarded rating stars (up to five) and you need to have at least one rating star in order to earn anything at all on Helium. So apart from writing you also have to leave some time every day to do a bit of rating in order to keep your rating stars.
4. On Helium you also get the chance to write to Marketplace topics that have been placed by publishers looking for writers. If your article gets picked by the publisher you will not only get paid what the publisher offered, which can be anything from € 2 up to € 200, but in lucky occasions, if they thought you were an excellent writer, the publisher could choose you to write on a continuous basis for them.
5. There are also titles to be written to in the Writing Contests of Helium where you can, if you win, earn yourself an extra € 10 for third prize, € 30 for second prize and € 50 for first prize. Not bad, if you are lucky enough to win, for a boost to your monthly earnings!
6. Helium are strict on grammar and spelling and so any articles that don't meet their standards will be rated down and such articles don't end up earning much if anything at all!
7. Then of course, like any other writing site, if you hit on a popular title
