When you are trying to figure out how to make money from home, one of the first things you need to ask yourself is what your hobbies are and what you like to do. The best way to make sure your new business venture will last is to make sure it's something you enjoy doing. With the right ideas and effort, almost anything can be turned into a money making venture.

If you are staying home to be with your kids, then time will be a big factor when deciding what to do to earn money. While I would love to have full time work as a virtual assistant, I know with two kids under age two and a half, I would never have the time to. However, if you don't have kids, if they are in school during the day, or you have someone else could watch them while you work, there are countless positions working for call centers or as virtual assistants you can do from home.

If you feel like exploring your creative side, there are many different kinds of crafts you could make and then sell. There is an entire channel on Helium devoted to different kinds of craft projects, so I won't go into too much detail, but jewelry, candles and soaps are always popular. But there are literally hundreds of different ideas, so take a walk around your house and let the creativity flow. If you don't want to take the time to go to craft fairs to sell your crafts, then there are plenty of websites, like Etsy.com, Craigslist.org or Ebay.com. There are also stores where you can rent space monthly to display your crafts. You usually won't have to do anything besides pay a monthly fee and restock supplies when they run low.

Writing has become a popular option for people trying to make money from home. Whether you decide to blog, write content articles or freelance, there are plenty of opportunities available. Sites like Helium, Associated Content, and Suite 101, and many others, allow members to submit content articles. How they pay their writers differs  among the sites, so be sure to check on before you sign up. If you want to start your own blog, try popular sites like blogger.com or blogspot.com. If you are looking to try freelance writing, check out sites like elance.com or guru.com.

Working from home can sometimes be lonely. If you are a social butterfly, and want to remain that way, try going into sales. Popular companies include Mary Kay and Avon, but there are plenty of other companies to explore that offer many different product lines.You can easily market these products online or at places you often visit, like the gym, local restaurants or doctors offices, and hold parties in your home.

If you like children, you might want to consider running a childcare service from your house. There are licenses and regulations you need to acquire if you are going to be watching a certain number of kids, so check with your state to see what the restrictions are. But with a few toys, some snacks and enough space, you could make a considerable amount of money each week.

These are only a few of the many ways you can make money from home, so do some searching before you commit to anything. You may not make your first million with any of these, but they should provide you with some extra income, especially if you are willing to put in the extra time and effort.
