It was February 14th the day those destined to be together were given a little nudge by Cupid. The cherubic conspirator flew around the world with his quiver full of love loaded golden arrows ensuring those on the list were in love by the end of the day. No-one ever felt the arrows as they pricked the skin, just the surge of love as it coursed through their bodies finally reaching their heart. This year was different; there was no sign of Cupid meaning no-one was falling in love. Red roses, the ultimate symbol of love, were wilting everywhere, and the weather reflected the sad mood with skies turning grey and rain steadily falling. Was the world doomed to be perpetually miserable?
Somewhere far away a forlorn, but familiar figure flew aimlessly. it was Cupid. He had lost the list; the most important piece of paper. When he realised what he'd lost he panicked, flying deep into the night sky as fast and as far as his wings would carry him in the hope that he would not be found and that his misdemeanour would go unpunished. Cupid was well aware of the consequences for the world. Without his arrows love would cease to exist.
Back on Mount Olympus The Council of Gods were aware that the list had been lost, because they had found it. Time was running short and with only a couple of hours remaining it was vital that Cupid be found and sent on his mission, so the Gods formed a circle and with one unified voice cried out Cupid's name. The sound reverberated throughout the universe finally reaching Cupid's ears and with a heavy heart he flew home silently through the dark skies. Passing each member of the Council he saw their disappointment and on reaching Zeus was thoroughly heavy hearted. Zeus offered him the chance to redeem himself. So with time running short and his wings heavy and tired Cupid headed towards earth to save love. He flew like he had never flown before and the accuracy of his shots was amazing. With seconds to spare Cupid achieved a miracle; the list was complete and love was saved. Around the world the roses perked up and the sky was dotted with a myriad of twinkling stars; the scent of romance was back.
Cupid never let the list out of his sight again.
