As the trend for body piercing continues and technology advances, so does the ability to pierce different parts of the body safely and with relatively little pain. Body jewelry can now be placed through almost every part of the ear, but it is the Rook piercing that is often one of the most distinctive.

The rook of the ear is the highest point of cartilage (the anti-helix) beneath the ear helix (the prominent rim). Due to the dense nature of this cartilage, ii is commonly described as one of the more painful ear piercing procedures.

When considering a rook piercing, it is essential to work with your body and decide whether or not your ears are suitable. If you have a shallow rook, it is likely that your ear will not successfully take the piercing. Consulting a licensed, sanitary and trustworthy piercing specialist will help you to make the decision about whether or not the piercing is possible.

The first step before acquiring any new body piercing is to carefully research both the piercing studios and staff in your local area. You are looking for a studio with sanitary procedures, with staff who wear gloves and dispose of all sharps in the correct manner. Ask to see qualifications where necessary, and discuss the options with other people who have had first hand experience of their expertise.

Once you have chosen the studio to pierce your ear, you will often need to make an appointment. When you actually arrive on the day, be prepared to show identification to prove your age, and to sign various paperwork and disclaimers. Read these carefully before adding your signature.

The act of piercing your body can often lead to unexpected nausea or faintness. For this reason, and for general support, it often advised to take a friend with you when getting a body part such as the rook pierced.

The piercer will ask you to lie down with the ear to be pierced facing upwards. They should use a fresh needle from a sealed packet, and be wearing gloves. If you are unable to confirm that these two basic standards have been met, then it is best to refuse service and find an alternative piercing studio.

Before being pierced, your ear will be thoroughly cleaned to remove bacteria and other germs. Then a hook shaped needle will be pushed through the cartilage and pulled through the other side with a scissor-like implement.

It is crucial that you remain still throughout the procedure, as jerking away can cause extra damage to your ear and distress for all involved. Stay as still as possible
