St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in 1737 honoring an Irish saint. While the holiday invokes parades, shamrocks and beer, it is also heralding the entrance of spring with all its green glory.

Parades are always a fun way to celebrate the holiday. With many bagpipe groups and leprechauns to entertain the crowds, there are many sights and sounds to put everyone in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit.

There are certain food and beverage items that are associated with St. Patrick’s Day. We are all familiar with corned beef and cabbage as well as the famous green beer. Luckily for Anchorage there are several locations to enjoy these delicious St. Patty’s Day treats with a little something extra to make the celebration complete. When you can drop by a pub and not only enjoy a great green beer but be entertained by live bagpipes and song and dance, it just makes the atmosphere more festive.  There are many pubs in Anchorage to enjoy festive celebrations; the following are a few worthy of highlighting.

Mo’s O’Brady will be serving up St. Patty’s flare including Shepherd’s Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage along with famous green beer. The dining experience is complete with live bagpipes for entertainment. You can enjoy the wonderful St. Patrick’s Day dinner for around $6.50

Reilly’s will celebrate with Irish dancers, bagpipes and FREE corned beef sandwiches. They also recommend that you try their wonderful Irish coffee or a spirited Irish whiskey. These are sure to get your St. Patty’s Day celebration in high gear.
