Our friendship began as just that.
Friendship.
We connected.
We have so much in common.
Similar interests,
But different, too.
We have fun together.
Enjoy each other,
Enjoy each other's company.
We challenge each other.
We have ideas and interests in common.
And differences, too.
We don't always see eye to eye,
Therein lie the challenges
That help us to grow
And sharpen our thinking.
Sharing our joys double them.
Sharing our griefs halve them.
We do so much for each other,
And with each other.
We care for and about each other,
Friend for friend.
But somewhere along the way,
My love for my friend morphed.
I wanted our friendship to be more.
I ached for a closeness deeper,
Deeper than what we have.
I ached for romance.
And yet, the friendship we have
It is so sweet,
So deep.
How could I desire more?
How could I endanger what we have?
It is a desire for total connection.
For two to become one.
But it is recipe for heartache.
My desire for more is not to be.
It is all from my side of the friendship.
I content myself
With having a dear friend
Who is true
Who is loyal
Who will remain
A deep friend,
But not a lover.
My friendship holds.
And my thanks to you,
My friend,
For being that:
My friend above all.
Beyond all.
We will continue
To encourage each other
Support each other
Challenge each other
Talk with each other
Share with each other
Love each other
But romance is not to be.
And the desire for
Romance must be
Left behind.
Left behind.

Poetry: One-sided love

One sided love
That is not
A game of tennis
The fruits will fall
The blessings will go away
What an empty home
We are cuddling
I am only a brief sentence
In your book of life,
Yet in mine, you take up chapters
With material that is always rife.
Such
Derailed
Two trains and one track
the destination the same
Speeding toward each other
Masochistic mind-framed
Eyes open illuminated

You said you'd always protect me,
You called me your best friend,
So why are you breaking my heart.
You smile and stare
