Writing is an expression of the soul. So is music. Anything that allows a person to express themselves can be classified as an expression. There are many ways to express yourself. You can yell and scream. You can kick and punch. You can smile and laugh. The best way to express your negative emotions is on paper. That's why diaries and journals are so important. When the anger and hurt come, instead of lashing out in a foolish, harmful way you can lash out through writing. All the emotions you feel you can express on paper through your silent words.
When you get hurt sometimes you want to hurt that person who did you wrong. Sometimes you want to scream and hit someone. You hear the saying, "two wrongs don't make a right" and you realize that is true. It won't help to lash out physically. Maybe hitting that person or yelling at them would make you feel good at the moment, but what about later? What happens when you're sitting in prison because you've hurt someone or maybe even killed them? Alcohol and drugs isn't the answer so where do you turn?
Sometimes you have friends and family that you can talk to. Sometimes you can trust them with what you really feel. Sometimes you know that if you say you feel like killing the one who hurt you that the people will understand that you are just angry. You have no intention of really doing that. Then, what if they believe you? What if they think you really would kill that person? It's best to write about what you feel. You can express yourself without misunderstandings. You can feel yourself healing emotionally because you didn't have to keep the feelings bottled up. You didn't have to regret any actions. You can write and read your feelings to yourself.
When you're alone at night and want to cry, you write. Maybe you cry too because no one is there. You can hit your pillow, but you don't want to break your stuff. You don't want the neighbors to call the cops, so you write. Maybe you write a song and put it to music. Maybe you sing about your hurt. Maybe you write a poem or a story about someone who is feeling what you feel. It becomes a best seller and later you laugh. You made money from writing about your hurt. You couldn't talk about it then, but now you can. Maybe you just want your thoughts to be private. Maybe you're afraid for anyone to see how you really feel so you keep a diary. It's tucked away in a hiding spot that only you can find. The pages are full of all your feelings good and bad. It's okay because that's why you can function. You can write and you can heal.
