Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder's version of Willy Wonka

There are pros and cons to each film. I liked Mel Stuart's version because it was light, fun and the songs were upbeat. Gene Wilder was a great Willy Wonka although I don't think he really pulled him off as well as Johnny Depp. In the book, Willy Wonka is sort of dark and mysterious. He doesn't really like children but loves to make candy. The special effects in the Tim Burton version were incredible and the colors were so bright and in your face. I loved that about it. Also Tim Burton really brought out the dark side of Willy Wonka, showing his past and why he is the way he is. Really a brilliant Director. The one thing I didn't like about Tim's version was the boat ride song. I thought the boat ride with Gene Wilder was better because it really was when you got to see the dark side. It was really odd images and the song was just creepy. I do think the newer version appeals to the kids of this generation but the Stuart's Willy Wonka will always hold a special place in my heart.
