Reuseable bags are cheap and an inexpensive way to help the environment. They are robust and they can be used again and again, they also reduce the amount you have to spend on a rucksack or a large bag just for putting a few groceries in. Many also have handles that are kinder to hands as opposed to the plastic bag.
Plastic bags are dangerous to the environment, they are flimsy and often burst before you even get home and if you store them for a few years then they begin to degrade and give one a really nasty cough when they have been disturbed. Plastic bags may be useful when purchases have been made but why do people insist on plastic bags.
Some of my own research led to that people like to have plastic bags for dog poo, so that they can scoop it up and then put it in the bin on the way out of the park, some people use them for rubbish, but most people just do not want to give up a whole British pound on a reuseable bag.
Many super markets with club card rewards are giving green points to customers that choose to have a reusable bag and then gain extra points as and when they use them. It might just be a British thing but many people actually go for this collecting points scheme and they would do anything they could to claim points which then could be redeemed every so often on a shopping trip.
Also, reusable bags are not as dorky as they used to be, they are now stylish and hip and some are just so funky you can't help but go and purchase one. Then when finished with it, just leave it in your handbag and when you fish for your purse, then you will almost certainly lay your hands on that dinky reusable bag too.
Reusable bags take a long time to wear out so you can walk home safe in the knowledge that your bag is not going to burst and that the milk and pasta sauce are not going to go all over the pavement.
Reusable bags also help the environment, they reduce the amount of plastic being manufactured and thus reduces the amount of pollution from all the factories as the demand for plastic bags is steadily reducing.
For an individual or for a family who are wanting to go green and don't know where to start, then the reuseable bag is the best place to start, It will get you into the swing of being more self-conscious about the environment and what other things you can do to help the environment such as recycling.
