When aunts make your life miserable

by TrystynLynn

Created on: February 13, 2011

For some reason, Aunts are the ones who make your life more miserable than anyone else in the family. Not even your own parents can make you feel that bad. They are the dictators and instigators to ever family drama that comes out from every family and coming from an Asian culture, it is even worse. All of the Aunts should be nominees for Best Actress award in the Golden globes. Now let's discuss how pretentious and judgmental they are and how they can ruin the generations after them.

First, there is the eldest Aunt in the family who is the leader and everyone looks up to her and most of the time, her life is her career and ends up being single for the rest of her life. And because she is Asian, despite her not having her own family, she still has the need to feel that she is needed; that she is a very important member of the family even though all the nieces and nephews are old enough to look after themselves and have their own lives. No matter how old any of the nieces or nephews are, she will always say that they should not date since they cannot even look after themselves. Telling us not to compare ourselves with others and yet they do not practice what they preach.

My Aunt brought me all the way to Vancouver Canada and sponsored my education in University in which I decided to pay her back and have already done so to avoid future obligations. She brings me here using the excuse that it would be better getting an eduction overseas and since film was something i wanted to pursue, Vancouver would be great because it is North Hollywood and many films get made here. The actual reason for me coming here is so that there would be someone to accompany her since she is single and she wanted to immigrate here. After 3 years of living here, she complains about the lack of a proper system and complains about how things are handles in the country and decides that she wants to move back. Thankfully for me, I saw a different side of the country and am happy here as I have my  chosen family; my friends. Something that she does not have and all she does is stay at home reading her books and watching the news. She cooks and forces us to eat at proper times despite our schedules and constantly causes me to be late for appointments because of the last minute errands she makes me run even though she knows that I am busy. Of course that sounds like I am the problematic one since she is being nice but she is so ironic. On one hand when there is just a little
