Poetry: Love struck

by April Self

Created on: February 13, 2011

Found reaching for the

unattainable dream.

The treacherous paths we seem to find,

leading us down heartaches' unraveling seam.

As if grasping air that leaves us lost,

our souls hurting as we give our best.

To seek.. to hold Love's fever, Love's fury,

leading us many a time on a fruitless quest.

Searching for the passion,

that burns our insides out.

At the end of the tunnel there's nothing more,

then a passing fancy, infatuation whittled to doubt.

So keen on filling the void,

within our soul's confines.

We reach out, thinking if we are not alone,

misery's company will blur the lines.

Of our emptiness, our missing link,

that keeps us hungering for something more.

And yet we use love as a distraction,

a diversion from what our hearts really yearn for.

As if being 'love struck'

of falling under its' spell.

Will keep the darkness, the emptiness,

away, the lost feelings to quell.

The only true 'love struck'

that lasts through Life's twists and bends.

Is the Passion of the Christ,

God's promise that His love never ends.
