Inexpensive wines of value

I am not a fan of wine. Some have been tolerable over the years, for example Carlo Rossi Sangria, and until tonight, the only wine I have ever admitted to actually liking has been Wild Vines Passion Berry White Zinfandel. Checking out the wine selection at Wal-Mart tonight I was curious about some other options. I see one labeled "Blush", so I turn the bottle to read the label and it states, "Layers of pears and berries blend with honey and apples in this lightly sweet pink wine..." I stopped there. I had heard of sweet wine, but I did not know if Wild Vines counted as a real wine or not, and I have always wanted to try a sweet wine. Most wine is too acidic and tart for my taste, and at $3.59 a bottle, I figured I could give it a try. When I got home, I tossed it in the fridge for a few hours, and while watching last week's episode of "My Name Is Earl" I decided to taste it. It was really very good! It does have the typical vinegar-like wine smell, but it is much milder. It has a faint sweet, floral scent to it and consists of a beautiful shade of pink. It has a slightly sweet taste without a sugar taste like Wild Vines. The taste is nice and fruity... I am thinking strawberries and either pears or apples. I'm leaning more towards pears. I do not sense any honey though; however, I do suspect the honey is what cuts the acidity and tartness without tasting like sugar. This is the first glass of wine I have ever been able to drink without feeling like stopping after half a glass. As for what food it may pair nicely with? I'm thinking the perfect meal would be chicken cooked with pears or apricots, romaine lettuce tossed with sliced strawberries and poppy seed dressing, and a variety of fresh berries. This is a great summer wine. Now you may be asking yourself, what is this wonderful wine? It is Ste. Genevieve out of Fort Stockton, Texas (way out in West Texas off of I-10 before it merges with I-20 on your way to El Paso).
