It's pouring rain out, and Darien is having a hard time falling asleep. He hates the dark, how the shadows creep, and play tricks on his uneasy mind. Thunder strikes , and he screams for his mother. She comes rushing down the hall, bursting into his room.
"Darien, honey whats wrong"?, she asked panting.
"Mommy, I am scared, I can't sleep, read to me please", he asked pleadingly.
Like any mother she can't resist the sadness in his eyes, she longs to comfort him.
"Oh honey, but I already read to you. Well alright which story would you like me to read to you"?
"Mommy, I am bored with all these stories, tell me one of your own", Darien said excited.
She thinks for a while. She can't remember any from her childhood, none that she hasn't read him already. Then she started to drift into her childhood memories. She hesitated then spoke.
"If I tell you, it might give you bad dreams".
"No it won't I promise, please mommy", he begged incessantly.
She gave in, under the condition that he would go to bed right after.
When she was a little girl her parents were constantly away on business trips and such. She had a maid who looked after her, but was constantly consumed with the daily house chores. So she had to find ways to amuse herself. She had all the toys a little girl could ever want, but she was all alone. One day when she was in her room having tea with her dolls, she heard a rustling in her closet, she ignored it at first. Then she heard someone whisper.
"Come here, little girl come here".
She looked up from her table, looked towards the closet but it was dark. She knew she had heard something, so she walked towards her closet slowly. When she reached the entrance she peeped her head in slowly, and suddenly a green furry hand reached out and pulled her in. It felt like she was flying, so fast, all she could make out was darkness, and tiny little sparkling lights that looked like stars. She could feel the furry hand holding on to her tightly. She tried
