A very unusual choice but I would have to say Bangkok, read on to find out why....
Bangkok, the capital of Thailand would not rate high in most people's list of 'The most beautiful cities in the world'. What do you think of when someone says 'Bangkok'? Traffic, pollution, smells more pollution? Well you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that, the stench on the streets is repulsive, constantly changing from human waste, rotting flesh to wet dog. The traffic is terrible and the pollution problem is very bad with a layer of smog constantly engulfing the city.
So why do I think this is the most beautiful city? Before anyone starts thinking I am a lunatic I would like to add I have traveled extensively, I have lived in Spain, Australia, London, Saudi Arabia and Dubai and traveled everywhere in between. But nowhere beats the charm of the smelly polluted city that is bangkok.
From the minute you step off the plane warm air suffocates your whole body, you feel like you have landed on another planet, the Thai culture is so strong. Walking down a main street in Bangkok is one of my favorite things, people and carts line the roads selling anything from clothes to deep fried insects, music is played and the atmosphere is buzzing with life. Multi colored tuk-tuks roar past and drivers haggle for customers, incense is burned, lights flicker, sense overload! I love Bangkok.
While it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing city, i still feel it is the most beautiful city in the world in another way, cram packed full of excitement and experiences . If people ask me where the one place they should visit is I always say Bangkok, it truly is a life changing experience - it really makes you appreciate life more and if you get sick of it you can always retire to one of the many beautiful beaches in Thailand.
