Do you want to be a great person and have a fulfilling life while making a difference? In order to accomplish this, you must incorporate compassion, charity and self-control into your life. You will learn how to have them.

The first aspect of compassion includes treating others with respect. If you are in a position of authority, you must not abuse your power. For example, if you are a supervisor at work and you want employees to do something, you should not yell at them to do it, especially if they have not provoked you. Instead, you should simply ask them nicely to do it.

The second includes acceptance. The first thing you must do is overlook others’ flaws. The second is not to be too concerned with others having a lot of money or looking good.

The third includes cutting others some slack. If someone does something that annoys you at a place where you do not have authority, you should bring it to their attention personally and ask them to stop before reporting him or her to someone in charge. If someone is acting up or breaking the rules where you have authority, you should warn them at first, especially if what they are doing is minor and it is their first offense. If you have a sick employee, you should let him or her take time off from work. If you need your children to get something but they are watching television, you should let them get it on the next commercial, if it can wait.

The fourth includes being sympathetic and empathetic. If others appear to be in physical or emotional pain, you should ask them if they are okay and what you can do to help. If others are in trouble of their own making, you should not direct blame toward them and tell them that they brought it on themselves. Instead, you should suggest good alternatives they should pursue. Another thing you can do is tell them that, although what they did is not appropriate, you understand because you have been in their situation.

The fifth includes looking out for others. If you can give others good advice or teach them a useful skill, you must do it. If you approach pedestrians who are walking on part of the road because the sidewalk has hard snow or ice on it, you should move over instead of staying in your lane and making them walk on that awful stuff. If you are a pedestrian approaching an intersection where a driver has either been waiting at a stop sign or has stopped in the middle of the intersection, you should wave him or her through. If you see someone drop something unintentionally,
