A personal digital assistant (PDA) is a small mobile device that functions as a management tool for the storage of personal information. These palmtop computers offer a very convenient method of storing data and organizing any agenda. Despite the many benefits that a PDA can provide, many owners find themselves frustrated with the relatively short battery life that many of these products provide. By following a few simple instructions, however, the battery life of any iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or Smartphone can be dramatically increased.
1) By activating the “Sleep” function in the device’s settings the PDA will not use as much power while it is idling. This function is found under the “settings” or “options” menu in most of the PDA devices, and may also be titled as a “hibernation” or “rest” setting.
2) Reducing the brightness setting or any PDA will save battery life by reducing the amount of power that is used to light the screen. Many devices; including the Smartphone; even hold an automatic dimming feature that allows the device to automatically adjust the level of brightness to suit the surroundings.
3) Disconnecting the “Flash Animation” feature when it is not required will reduce the graphic capability of the personal digital assistant, which reduces the level of power that it requires in its operation. When not using the device for gaming, video or photo analysis it is best for this option be turned off.
4) Ensure that the PDA is not set on a setting that allows it to search for WiFi or Bluetooth access when the phone is in an area that does not receive these services. When this “auto-roam” option is enabled the device may consume a fair amount of battery power by roaming for these services at all times.
5) Similar to the “Sleep” function that was mentioned above, setting the backlight timer to the shortest possible option will further increase the battery life of the PDA by reducing the amount of energy that is used to light the screen when the item is not in use.
6) Charging the device as often as possible, and ensuring the device is fully charged when feasible will obviously maximize the amount of time that the PDA battery will last. In the newer products that do not contain a memory battery this option is particularly beneficial in promoting a longer battery life.
With so many mobile devices available on the market today, it seems as though there is a PDA tailored to suit the needs of any individual. While battery life will likely improve with constant upgrades in technology and efficiency, many of the models available today can offer an acceptable lifespan when used properly.
