Making the most from an advertising budget is more than choosing appropriate and powerful advertising methods. Sure, the advertising methods businesses choose are vital, but to effectively manipulate the advertising budget, businesses needs to have an advertising plan in mind right from the start. The below guidance can help businesses to do this.

Set an Advertising Budget

Setting an advertising budget limits the amount a business can spend. The amount varies for different types of businesses. Some businesses can spend as little as 1 percent of its monthly profit on advertising, while some spend up to 10 percent. To know the appropriate amount you should set aside for advertising, do some calculations of the business income, expenditure, and sales forecast. Referring to past years’ advertising budget and doing some research in the industry can also give you a better idea of the optimal budget.

Businesses should never overestimate their sales amount when setting advertising budget. Being too optimistic may render you unrealistic and end up spending too much on advertising.

Set a Goal

Setting a goal helps businesses know the result they want from the money they put in. The goal should be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely). Start with a specific goal statement. State clearly when the business is expected to achieve the goal. And be realistic. Don’t expect national influence when a business spends only several hundreds of dollars.

Choose Advertising Methods

The advertising methods a business chooses depend on the amount the business can afford. Businesses with thousands of dollars in their pocket can have an advertising agency make a TV or radio commercial for them, but for most businesses, this is often over budget. Fortunately, plenty of other promotional methods are available at low cost  classified ads on newspapers and magazines, social media marketing, advertising space on websites, and Pay Per Click advertising are a few options. When choosing among various advertising methods, it is best to do some research and get to know the pros and cons of each method. Don’t use a particular method just because the competitors are using it.

Review

Review lets businesses know how the advertising budget has performed, so they know how successful or unsuccessful their advertising campaign is. When doing review, businesses often need to do some fact-checking against the goals they set. It’s crucial for businesses to find out the reason the advertising budget has been used well or poorly, so it could be used for future reference.

The above tips can help businesses capitalize on their advertising budget. When the advertising budget is well used, it can often bring about powerful result for the business.
