Sharing the Word-Genesis-God Prepares Noah for the Flood
Job 1:1 “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil" (KJV).
Many years before Job was born, a similar person lived. Even though Noah was born a sinner, he lived his life for God. In a world that was full of corruptness and violence, Noah lived a righteous life. He was obedient to God and had a strong fellowship with him. Because he honored God and obeyed him, he was blameless of all the wrong that was going on around him in the world.
With all the evil that was going on in the world, God was going to wipe out the earth and destroy all the humans. However, since Noah walked with him and found grace with him, God spared Noah and his family son a new godly generation could be built through him. To spare Noah and his family, God instructed Noah in several ways.
First he told Noah what he intended to do. While it probably was a shock to Noah, knowing that everybody else on the earth-including his friends, neighbors and relatives-were going to be killed, Noah needed to be told. He had to be prepared when the waters came.
Just think of this example in today’s society. You have decided to go on a cruise. However, you wait to the last minute to book the trip. The chances that you will go on that trip are slim to none, because all the rooms are booked months in advance. Even if you are lucky enough to get a room in steerage, you still have to book a flight, get a passport and pack your bags. If you have been on a cruise before, you are familiar with the essential cruise checklist that lists the necessary items that you need. This list contains hundreds of items. If you think that you can pack your bags at the last minute, you are mistaken. You need to be prepared for this trip months in advance. Just like this example, Noah needed enough time to get ready before the flood.
Next God instructed Noah on how to build the ark that would save him and his family.
Genesis 6:14 “Make an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thee make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without the pitch" (KJV).
God told Noah what type of wood to use. While the King James Version of the Bible states that the wood to be used is gopher wood, other translations refer to it as cypress wood.
Both the inside and outside were to
