Dawn
Daybreak
Your daughter cries at night slipping into morning then noon
wondering where her mother is
I cannot comfort her
I can only cry
As years pass
I watch her rise into twilight
in the dragon's grasp
She will not be the same
She will be lost and there is nothing I can do to mourn her
Instead, I am cursed with memories I cannot bear
Too tired to really face it
Too wrapped in myself to really understand it
Night falls and with it comes comfort
I can't see her tears, or mine
Healing, I watch death slip away
At least it wasn't her as well
Relief hits me
I won't cry today.
But perhaps tomorrow when dawn breaks
I will.

Poetry: Survivor's guilt
by Garth Norman
He was coming back with his handcart
When an explosion shook the mine
He looked towards the entrance
But turned back and walked
Close the door behind you when you decide to leave,
Whether I survive or not, don’t want you to see me bleed,
The rainbows
I'll never forget his look of dread,
while thoughts of escape when through my head.
The moment was sudden and we were out
Dawn
Daybreak
Your daughter cries at night slipping into morning then noon
wondering where her mother is
I cannot comfort her
