MUCH TOO SOON
It’s been a long time since
We saw each other last
But the memories come back
Parties with the Pathmark crowd
Did we actually try to dance the hustle?
Lunchtime in mid-Manhattan
Sundays at the beach with the
New York Times flapping away
In the breeze, that damned wind
Scattering the paper all over the place
The wedding where I got lost
In the room with the transformers
New Year’s Eve spent having a drink or two
Or maybe more then playing around
With Beethoven’s Für Elise
On the keyboard, dyslexic fingers
Hitting all the wrong notes…
While the ladies gathered in the
Living room watching Dynasty
Waiting for midnight and the ball to fall
Another year gone by
Was it that long ago?
Those were the days, my friend
We thought they’d never end
But they did
Much too soon.
Now all we have
Are the memories of a life
That enriched all of us
Who knew him.
Good bye, Don.

She saw me smile at her,
a mirror's reflection,
a countenance shared between us
as if a rainbow arched across
Ted Goetz. At only 71.
For several years, he simply sat, his rage
Growing as we talked around him.
It was the loss of
She smiles when I know,
It's sometimes hard to do.
She listens when I cry,
Knowing talking helps me through.
She knows being
That's Chuck, he's my friend.
What's that in your hand?. Let me see.. He said.
It's a picture; that`s Chuck; he is my friend...
