There are many who suggest that a blog's ranking should merely depend on the quality of the blog's content and not on the amount of links to your blog. After all content is king', and while in the real world this would be true, the problem is that search engine spiders wouldn't know good content if they fell off their web right into it.

As spiders are able to track links as they examine sites while on their rounds, I would suggest that Google judges content on the amount of links leading to rather than the content itself. Google would assume that any site with good content would naturally have more people linking to it. This in itself is not necessarily true though, as links can be bought and traded which is why so many link exchange programs exist. I'm sure that there are many of you who have visited blogs and wondered how the hell they managed to get such a good Page Ranking.

So, while agreeing that content is important in getting links, it would not be enough and bloggers should try SEO strategies like link exchange, using the right keywords etc to optimise their blog for the search engines. Choosing the right keywords in your title, tags and content of your blog is probably one of the most important things a blogger can do. The keywords that you will want to use are those that you think people will be typing into search engines and if you get this right you will see a dramatic jump in traffic to your blog.

To amplify the effectiveness of your keyword strategy it is also a great idea to use keyword phrases. Tags are great as they enable to use phrases and even misspelt words that you would not use in the article / post itself because of bad grammar and you would be surprised how many people misspell words in there rush to type things into the search engines.

Having said that I would like to stress once again how important it is to have good content because even though SEO tactics including using the right keywords and phrases may increase your traffic, unless your blog has good content they will not stick around, explore other posts or ever consider returning again.
