Poetry: Love and marriage

by April Self

Created on: February 04, 2011

His eyes held a respect for me.

I'd never seen before.

His hand gentle as he clasped mine.

And when he talked about God, I knew it was His design.

The hurt I had inside,

that had stayed from the past.

From a time of abuse,

like a demon had held me and wouldn't let loose.

This thing called love,

so harrowing throughout my life.

Had left its mark,

and I felt like I was walking in the dark.

But God in His mercy,

blessed me with someone,

who was searching for His eternal light.

Even as I'd gone straying from my Father's sight.

A man who caused me to feel,

a powerful love and yearning I didn't expect .

To be in God's favor, under His protective wings,

to have trust in the beauty, His mercy brings.

And now my husband, the love I'd never known,

was found by God's unfailing grace.

As He took me back into His fold.

And showed me His holy face.

God chose to lead me back to His arms,

Amidst my storms of doubt and pain.

He showed me, as of yet, to me an unseen art,

The masterpiece of Love's healing rain.
