Here is something I thought I'd never actually say: I am a curling fan. Now, I've never actually sat in the hack, thrown a stone or brushed a stone into the house, but the sport has definitely won a new fan in me over the last several years.
The strategy is one of the draws, as it's the type of sport where you have to think several moves ahead, like in a game of chess. Professional football has this aspect as well, but it's not quite the same, as curling has more of a punch-counterpunch feel to it. I like trying to figure out what the skip's next move will be, however I usually don't.
Another interesting draw to the sport of curling for a non-participant is, when watching it on television, the fact that the curlers are mic'ed. This means we get to hear the discussions they have as the game goes on, and the commentators are able to give better insight into the game for us viewers.
One day I would actually like to get out on the ice and try my hand at curling, but for the time being, I will have to content myself with watching on television.
