How to avoid speeding tickets

Avoiding speeding tickets is not as tough as it seems. I have been driving for nearly 37 years and have never received a speeding ticket. I've only been pulled over for speeding on two occasions. Both times the officer told me to slow down a little and let me go. Now, I don't get speeding tickets because I rarely speed. When I do, I almost never go more than 3-5 miles over the limit, and that's always on the interstates. There are a few hints to help you avoid tickets.

Don't speed in a car that looks like you will speed. If your driving a small sporty car with a big engine, the patrol cars will be attracted to you like magnets. About the only way you will avoid a ticket is to control your foot on the gas. You will need to stay within a mile per hour or two of the speed limit. Even if you aren't quite doing what they claim you are, if you are driving the wrong car, you word probably won't stand up in court.

Don't smoke your tires in residential areas. Even if the police aren't around, the neighbors will call them in to watch for you. If you burn your tires and the police are in the area, they will wait for you to pass the speed limit and then get you for at least a double violation.

Resist the temptation to race on public streets. Police love to ticket you for speeding when you are drag racing. It makes a nice fat juicy fine. Learn to do your mischief behind the wheel when you are out in the middle of nowhere.

Anything more than 10 miles per hour over the limit on an interstate is an invitation for a ticket. 10 miles over is the magic number in most states to put points on your license and increase the severity of the fines.

Learn where the speed traps are. Many small towns fund their cities with traffic fines. They post lower speed limits or make good hiding places for their officers or both. They will get you at almost any over-the-limit speed. It's about money, money, money.
