A little girl asks her daddy for a treat at the store,
He smacks her face and heads for the door,
Angry, red welts spread across the girl's cheek,
All because she asked for something to eat,
Hurting more due to daddy's black, leather glove,
And I say to myself, "Where is the love?"
An older woman, hunched over and gray,
Is having trouble finding her way,
She can't walk very fast and uses a cane,
Without her umbrella, alone in the rain,
A young man pushes her out of his way with a shove,
And I think to myself, "Where is the love?"
A boy who is gay tells his best friend at school,
Then for the next four years he faces unjust ridicule,
The other kids make fun of him and call him bad names,
He kills himself when he grows weary of their foolish games,
Why did those kids treat him so rough?
A tear slides down my cheek..."Where is the love?"
Two young brothers are murdered; both of them dead,
All because they kept getting out of their bed,
Their mom was a drunk who only cared for herself,
So she had grabbed the rifle from up on the shelf,
The shots could be heard on the third floor above
And it makes me wonder, "Where is the love?"
An old dog lies dying in the middle of the street,
A homeless man on the bench with nothing to eat,
A young wife who gets beaten for not cleaning up right,
A scared, little girl who gets raped every night,
A teen-aged boy who is verbally abused,
Later forcing his son to walk in his shoes,
When is it ever enough?
"How can this be?" I think. "Where is the love?"

It is not in the eyes of the enemy
