In any crowd, especially a crowd of students, many people will be listening to their iPod, the hit music device people of all types seem to love so much. Here is yet another example of a destructive device created for musical convenience and entertainment. Instead of talking with their peers and being aware of their environment, iPod listeners are hiding in their surround-sound world of on demand music instead of interacting with the outside world, ultimately losing out on life. In addition, irresponsible iPod listening is having an adverse effect on today's youth. According to ScienceDaily.com, "We're seeing the kind of hearing loss in younger people typically found in aging adults. Ear buds preferred by music listeners are even more likely to cause hearing loss than the muff-type earphones." So iPods don't just isolate listeners from the world around them, they also cause serious and permanent hearing damage.
