The benefits of eating breakfast

Eating Breakfast.

I started a diet! Yes, I did.  Another one.  I've been closely watching my progress beginning October 2010.

I have lost weight.  How?  Well for one, I now almost always start with breakfast.  You know the old saying-breakfast means to break a fasting period.  In most cases, it's the first meal after a 6 to 8 hours of sleep.  I try never to skip breakfast because of it's importance in fighting the weight gain/loss battle.   I read that eating breakfast:  increases metabolism, and provides fuel for your body to begin a successful day.

Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day.  I totally agree. There are many studies out there that go into more details about how metabolism works and what we can do to reach our weight lost goals.  I've just read the following and thought I'd share it with you: Why breakfast Is the most i meal of the day.  Breakfast is important, not only for adults, but for children too. In fact kids may need breakfast, even more than we do.  WEBMD.com says: "Their growing bodies and developing brains rely heavily on the regular intake of food. When kids skip breakfast, they can end up going for as long as eighteen hours without food, and this period of semistarvation can create a lot of physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems for them." (Webmd.com, 2011)

Not only is breakfast good for you, is is also a good investment.  Again, per Webmd.com, "A Good Investment-If you and your kids regularly skip breakfast in the interest of saving time or getting a few more minutes of sleep, remember that eating a wholesome, nutritious morning meal will probably save you time in the long run. By recharging your brain and your body, you'll be more efficient in just about everything you do. Interestingly, studies show that kids who skip breakfast are tardy and absent from school more often than children who eat breakfast on a regular basis. Preparing a good breakfast can be as quick and easy as splashing some milk over cereal. Time invested in breakfast is much more valuable than the few extra minutes of sleep you might get by bypassing the morning meal."  I'm sold!  And I can say, during this journey of losing weight, I know this is working for me.

I've researched a little and found that skipping breakfast does more harm than good, and is believed to be a factor in developing obesity. Webmd.com says:"Studies show that overweight and obese children, adolescents, and adults are less likely to break the fast each morning than their thinner counterparts."

According to research, skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. "Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger."  This article was published on WEBMD website and is really interesting and makes sense.

And as the article states:  it is a good investment  and easy to do.  Oh and by the way, as of this week, I've lost 55 pounds.  Not bad, huh....
