Gun Control
Every time there is a news report of famous people or public figures being shot by some crazed gunman, the topic of gun control resurfaces. What I can’t figure out is why people can’t understand that you cannot legislate behavior or morality. You cannot make a criminal not use a weapon to carry out whatever he/she has in mind.
The only people that pay attention to the law are the honest, law abiding citizens who only want to be able to protect themselves and their families. Why then try to pass stricter gun laws when all that’s necessary is to enforce the laws that are already in place? If that were done and judges followed the law to prosecute criminals that use weapons to commit crimes, then perhaps that would help.
Jumping on the anti-gun bandwagon does no good for anyone. I have a concealed carry permit here in Texas and I do carry a weapon whenever I travel, or just go out on the town riding my motorcycle or in my car with my family. I cannot carry to work because that’s prohibited. People that are afraid of guns just need to understand them and how they work. They don’t in and of themselves kill anyone, it takes deliberate or accidental discharge of a gun to injure or kill. You never point a weapon at anything that you don’t intend to destroy. Gun safety classes are available almost anywhere and if you are afraid of guns, you probably would benefit from taking a class. This doesn’t mean you have to run right out and buy a gun, but at least understanding the fundamentals of how a gun works and the safety required to own a gun is well worth the peace of mind.
I would hate to have to use my gun on anyone, but I’d much rather be the one going home than to be killed or injured, or have my family or friends injured because someone just decided it would be fun to shoot some place up. You can certainly bet that our politicians are well-protected. Our police officers do the best job they can and I applaud them because most are very dedicated and brave individuals, but even they know they can’t be everywhere at once. I believe firmly in the right of every individual to be safe in their homes, at work and anywhere they go in fact. If someone demands my wallet, I’ll hand them the money out of it because it’s too big a hassle to go get replacement cards, licenses, etc. But I wouldn’t pull my gun on him just because I could. I don’t believe the possibility of taking a life
