Most people are one energy band wagon or another; I just don't understand why they believe that one solution for energy can fix the problem.
LED lighting for street lights would cut consumption approximately 90%. What does that figure out to in tax dollars? New LED replacement tubes for florescent fixtures can save up to 80% in energy consumption. LED lighting verses incandescent lighting can save up to 90% in consumption. Florescent tubes can save 50% over incandescent bulbs. The technology is at the store. Get your wallet out and make your home energy efficient.
Wind generation of electricity is clean, but no one wants it in their neighborhood. I say too bad. Lets' install all of the wind generators we can.
Nuclear power is safe, clean, and economical; lets us build many more plants.
There is new technology that can burn all waste, with zero emissions. Let us mine all of the landfills for fuel. This technology can also heat water for steam generation of power. This is a win, win, and win situation because the fuel is free, zero emissions, and we get to reclaim vast areas of land.
Solar power is in its infancy, until there is an acceptable energy storage solution; only small applications are viable.
Heat pumps, geothermal, and super insulation, all have there applications on a case by case basis.
Ethanol production can be easily attained by the government having the acreage that is set aside in their PIK Program,(Payment in Kind Program); by having farmers grow corn on the set aside acreage. Paying farmers for not producing crops; I don't get it! I also do not like paying for such a foolish program.
There is enough oil shale In the U.S. to supply ourselves with oil for 500 years, at a cost of $55.00 per barrel. Why do we send $60 to $75 per barrel to the Middle East for something we do not need?
There are hundreds of abandoned damns on the rivers in the Mid-West which could supply approximately 30% of all of the energy needed in the U.S. Hydro power is a clean and a renewable resource. Why is this resource being ignored?
At any point in a navigable waterway it takes only a 4" PVC pipe to drop 5' in order to generate enough energy to electrify one home. Try to get a permit form the DNR; I dare you.
Foolishness, Politicians, Governmental interference, and of course lobbyists remain the eco-terrorists of our nation. Its a simple matter of just following the money.
The energy solutions we need are at hand. It is up to YOU; to get a person of influence off his dime.
