Do guardian angels exist? Many people will answer in the affirmative to this question. They have experienced what appears to be 'divine intervention' in certain events in life and thank their guardian angels for acting on their behalf to offer protection or help in difficult situations.
It's a nice thought, having a celestial 'big brother' watching out for us; one who can do things that no ordinary 'big brother' can do.
There is no doubt that such 'interventions' have happened, many sensible and rational human beings have experienced these things.
What does the Bible tell us about the role of angels? Who are they and what part do they play in our lives?
Eileen Elias Freeman, who has written a few books on the subject of guardian angels as well as presiding over the AngelWatch network, describes it this way.....
“I believe that for every angel in heaven there is a guardian angel on Earth, a being whose duties are not solely the praise of God in the heavenly sphere but the actual care of human beings and other forms of life on Earth. A guardian angel is assigned to each of us when we are conceived and watches over us through our growth in the womb, through our birth, through our life in this world, until the angel guides us from the confines of this world into the glory of heaven.”
Is there any evidence from the Bible that any of that is true?
The prophet Daniel had a vision of heaven and he wrote about what he saw: “I kept on beholding until there were thrones placed and the Ancient of Days sat down. His clothing was white just like snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool. His throne was flames of fire; its wheels were a burning fire. .....There were a thousand thousands that kept ministering to [God], and ten thousand times ten thousand that kept standing right before him.” (Daniel 7:9, 10)
Angels are seen ministering to God...millions of them! What a sight!
King David wrote, “Bless Jehovah, O you angels of his, mighty in power, carrying out his word, by listening to the voice of his word. Bless Jehovah, all you armies of his, you ministers of his, doing his will.” (Psalm 103:20, 21)
The angels here are also called 'ministers' which literally means a 'servant'. Though "mighty in power" these beings are in the service of their God.
In the Bible, the Hebrew word "mal·’akh" and the Greek term "ag´ge·los" are translated “angel” when relating to a spirit creature. These words occur
