There is no reason to learn how to cook in todays society. Now admittedly that sounds ridiculous, and thats because it is ridiculous. Naturally there are a plethora of reasons to learn how to cook regardless of how easy it is for you to get the daily dose of nutrients in this modern age. So you might ask yourself, "Why should I learn how to cook when I can just get some fast food or take out, or pop something in the microwave?". While that might be true, let's answer the question as to why you should not. The next few paragraphs will outline why you should think about tying on the apron and picking up a spatula.
First, let's take a look at how badly you might be damaging your body by eating all that food you didn't prepare. You can make virtually the same dishes that you would get when you go out, but you can make them healthier. Consider this, the country fried steak at Chili's is 1420 calories with 80 of those calories coming from fat. Now on the other hand you could make the country fried steak recipe from www.eatingwell.com and the numbers are shockingly different, the total calories are only 315 per serving and with only 13 grams of fat it is not going to pack on cellulite. Now lets take a peek at the numbers on a nice juicy burger, Burger King's Whopper sandwhich packs in at a whopping 670 calories with 40 grams of fat. A similarily juicy burger with a bit of kick is Bobby Flay's Green-Chili burger, it is packed with flavor and a chance for you to get some fresh air at the outdoor grill. It comes in at 600 calories with only 35 grams of fat. As for popping things in the microwave you may get a reasonable calorie count or not, but what you will get is a dose of sodium you can do without, take the Boston Market's Southwest Style Grilled Chicken meal for example. 490 calories and 15 grams of fat, not bad you say. Wrong, because you are getting 63 percent of your daily sodium at 1510 mg, you might as well drive to the ocean and grab a glass of sea water.
Second, and this is even more important. Learning how to cook will not only impress your friends, your parents, your spouse, your kids, etc. It will also make them love you more, now I know you are thinking that is some messed up reasoning and why should you have to be good at something or even know how to do something for people to love you. This is just a fact of life, people love people who can provide for them and if you are cooking their food, and you do it correctly,
