An enlightening tete-a-tete between a pro-life Christian and a pro-choice feminist:
Pro-Choice: Why are you pro-life? I mean, what exactly is so wrong about the idea of killing an unthinking, unfeeling, unknowing first-trimester fetus by aborting it? As long as the mother has a valid reason for getting an abortion, and as long as she has looked into all of the other options (those being adoption and motherhood), I can't see why anyone would be against the mother getting an abortion. I mean, why does it matter what others do with their lives, as long as they're following the law? I just don't get why anyone could think it's okay at all to push their morals on others by wanting abortion to be illegalized.
Pro-Life: Well I am first and foremost pro-God and secondly pro-responsibility. I therefore believe that a unique human life was created at the moment of conception and abortion ends that nascent growing life that as far as anyone knows God has intended for great things. Also ethically, because I follow the Golden Rule (i.e. do unto others-born or unborn-what you would have done unto you), and since we all start our lives as an unthinking, unfeeling and unknowing fetus that has a God-given right to become a thinking, feeling, knowing human being, then what right do I or anyone else have to interfere with that nascent life and its natural right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! Wasn’t our country founded on these principles?
Pro-Choice: So you think that forcing women through pregnancy and childbirth, even when they know that that would harm and/or traumatize them, is a good idea? Do you not care about women at all?
Pro-Life: Ruefully, most of the unborn babies aborted are female (preborn women) which is particularly true in male-dominated paternalistic countries like China and India. Those innocent babies are the very ones that we need to care about and protect-the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society. The mother may be distressed over the pregnancy but at least she is alive and has hope but the aborted baby is dead and hopeless. There are unselfish options for pregnant mothers such as adoption which not only gives life to the baby but gives a non-reproductive couple a beautiful child. A win, win, win situation! "After all, a person's a person, no matter how small."-Dr. Seuss
Pro-Choice: "…most of the unborn babies aborted are female." Where did you get that "fact" from? And what about the weakest women in society,
