The Innocent- Part Two- Going to Grandma's house
The next couple of years rolled by pretty uneventfully. I was now eleven years old and had made a few friends of my own. I was on the honor roll at school. I still loved doing things with my sister, Diane, but she was now sixteen and too busy with her friends and boyfriends. This was the first year that Mother and Daddy had allowed her to date. She had her driver's license and was dating a red-headed boy named Kurt Thomas. We weren't as close as we once were, but that was alright,. we still had our good times. Diane had developed into a beautiful girl. She had bleached her hair blond and was built like a movie star! The phone was ringing for her all the time now.
Mother had quit her job at Curly’s, so Diane no longer had to watch me after school.
My life wasn’t quite so glamorous as Diane’s, but I now had made friends of my own, Marsha Leeds and Tammy Stewart, who were both in my room at school.. Marsha was really my favorite, and had spent several overnights at our house. Tammy wasn’t quite as much fun as Marsha, since she never wanted to go anywhere or do much of anything. She was a homebody who just lived a couple of roads over from me. .
I had all but forgotten about the little episode with Eleanor, and figured I'd probably never do anything like that again. No one had ever made me that angry since. I was just happy that I’d gotten away with it. I remembered that my Grandma had always said to “Put unhappy thoughts away” and that’s just what I did.
School was almost over for the year, and this year, for the first time, I was going to summer camp at Broken Bow Camp Grounds. You can not even imagine how thrilled I was about this. It would be the first time that I had vacationed without my family. I felt so grown-up! What made it even better was that Marsha and Tammy were going too. I just couldn't wait! We would be gone for a whole month, from the middle of June until the middle of July! We were counting the days.
I also had a ‘sort of’ boyfriend now, too. His name was Davy Thomas, not a real boyfriend, but he was cute and I liked him a lot. I’d even let him kiss me once. He would be going to camp too! This would be the best summer ever!
I had always loved school, and I always made good grades. This is why Mother and Daddy had agreed to let me to go to camp this summer. But, even so, I was glad that school was almost
