This is definitely one of the hottest topics of all time. It has always been a hot topic and it will continue to be one. Why? Simply because men and women are different, so, of course women will always think that men don't understand them and vice versa.
Okay, there are various reasons why men don't understand women as women would like them to. I'll stick to a few of the obvious ones:
1. Women and men were built differently. We are supposed to complement one another, so it only makes sense that we were designed as such. In general, women love to talk and they are very expressive by nature. Men, on the other hand, are reserved when it comes to their feelings. So when a problem arises, all women want to do is talk about it and get an opinion or even sympathy from the opposite sex. But men don't work like that, when a problem arises, the macho in them want to solve it. So sometimes this doesn't work to their advantage. When all that a woman wants is sympathy, and she gets a solution, this might backfire and create more conflict.
2. Men don't listen as well as women do. The reason for this may be because men are, generally, raised to be solver of all things. So when they think they've heard enough to be able to provide a solution, they feel that their work is done. But women usually want someone to listen to them, to provide a shoulder to cry on, if necessary.
3. Men are straight forward creatures. They don't like to read between the lines. Often times, women play a game where they act cute and disguise their feelings or intentions. For example, if they want something as a birthday present, or if they want to go to this particular restaurant to celebrate her birthday, women won't come out and say it. They might say something like, upon passing by a window of a shop, "Oh, look at that...isn't that bag gorgeous?!?" Women think that this is enough hint for their man, they think that they'll understand that this is the bag that she wants for her birthday.
So the bottom line is, communication. In every relationship, communication needs to be open and there's really no need for disguises or hints. If you're comfortable with one another, then just say everything out in the open. I know this is easier said than done, but I personally believe that only when the communication line is open will men and women understand each other a whole lot more.
