When in college the word study, is considered by most learners as bad student ethic. The answer to the problem is to overcome bad ethic and still make a decent grade at the end of the semester. This of course is the mystery for anyone furthering their education. How to pass and keep away from study as much as possible, leaving you time to socialize and enjoy the picture perfect student life. Sadly there is no holy grail that will pass every student at the end of the year. However there are some key dynamics that every student can incorporate which in turn can solve the study dilemma.

The first step is to focus on why you are attending the class on your roster.  This is not your social time, this is study time. In class students must actively participate in the presented material. Focus on what is being said. The best thing you can teach yourself as a student is the art of listening. Once you’ve mastered this, you have cut your study time by a third. Listening is the act of finding interest in what is said, visualizing the words, and keeping contact with the speaker. Listening draws you into the material and this is where it becomes part of you. Remember the radio bulletin that caught your attention and how what was said can be recalled almost verbatim. This is interest, visualization and keeping contact with the speaker, in other words you listened and did not just hear.

The next thing you should do is take notes. Now there are notes and then there is the listener’ notes. Normal note taking involves a lot of writing and almost no listening. The listener writes down single words during a lecture. The listener will write down every question the professor asks in class. Finally the listener will be the one asking all the questions in class. When you ask questions, it immediately involves you in the subject material therefore focusing your mind. This enhanced focus drives you to listen and not just hear.  There is no human alive that asks a question they want an answer to and then doesn’t listen. Asking questions and listening to the answers, is the key to memorizing study material fast and easy.

The last point is research. Take your one word notes from class, from memory write down what you can remember. When you are done check your answers from you study material. Grade yourself and write the correct answer down if you got it wrong. If you don’t understand something, write down questions to ask the professor. Do try to answer
